DDR5-6400 RAM Benchmarks Show Major Performance Gains Over

Mhz CL22 memory is bargain bin memory. I want to see how this performs against the 3600 CL16 memory that most people are buying nowadays.

DDR5 DRAM FOR INTEL

Our DDR5 test system leverages Intel's Core i9-12900K processor with Corsair's CUE H100i Elite LCD liquid cooler taking care of the cooling. The flagship Alder Lake chip resides on the MSI MEG Z690 Unify-X motherboard, running the 7D28vA8 firmware. Meanwhile, the MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Gaming Trio is responsible for our gaming RAM benchmarks. Remember that more bandwidth is better, and more latency is worse. The DDR5 kit falls as far behind in latency as it gets ahead in bandwidth. That interplay of results was expected, but we’re still hoping for a few surprises in actual applications. So, onward to those... Application and Gaming Tests The coolest thing about the FURY Renegade’s RGB is that it works perfectly with Gigabyte’s AUROS ENGINE and Gigabyte Control Centre software. That means you can synchronize the Fury Renegade’s RGB lighting with the LED lights of your motherboard, cabinet, cooler, keyboard and mouse. Pretty cool, eh? However, with the rest of the memory kits offering either strong bandwidth performance or respectable latency, we're looking at no more than an 11% difference between the fastest and slowest kits. DDR4-4000 CL18 using gear 1 did provide the best results, but DDR4-3200 and 3600 CL16 also beat out all DDR5 kits.

Mineral oil PC build offers a number of benefits that make it an attractive option for enthusiasts. Finally, we take a look at War Thunder and here we're seeing pretty impressive performance gains at 1080p, though how useful a 24% performance boost is when you're already over 200 fps is hard to argue about. Still, even at 4K we're looking at up to a 9% performance boost.

This is the best DDR5 memory you can buy, but it's seriously expensive.

Do note that it's a tall kit, however, so you'll need to make sure your cooler is compatible with its height and doesn't tower over the DIMM slots of your motherboard at all. The modules themselves feel well built and the heatspreader hefty, indicating there's good cooling potential. Some of the silk screening is a bit over the top perhaps, but since you’ll never see that after its installed. To speed up the delivery of your static content (e.g., images, style sheets, JavaScript, etc.) to viewers across the globe With several new performance, reliability and power saving modes implemented in its design, DDR5 is ready to support and enable next-generation technologies,” said Desi Rhoden, Chairman JC-42 Memory Committee and Executive VP Montage Technology.

On-die ECC is to improve the reliability of individual chips. Between the number of bits per chip getting quite high, and newer nodes getting successively harder to develop, the odds of a single-bit error is getting uncomfortably high. So on-die ECC is meant to counter that, by transparently dealing with single-bit errors. If it really was DDR5-6400, then CL40 would be faster than DDR4-3200 CL22. Even if it's DDR5-4800, CL40 should only be ~20% worse. High-performing kits still command a premium though and the G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB DDR5-6400 2x 16GB kit is certainly a speedy offering. It’s not the first 6400MHz kit on the market, but we believe it’s the first to come with a CAS latency of just 32, and one of very few kits at any speed to come with a CL that low.For now, we have this less demanding part of the game and here DDR5 offers very little over DDR4, though I suspect this will also be true for more demanding scenes as well. DDR5 achieves 30% greater power efficiency than DDR4 through improved performance and power reduction.

What that tells us: The answer to the question "Which is better, DDR5 or DDR4?" really comes down to which tests you include (or don't include). But whatever your selector set is, the results remain close, at least with today's modules. From DDR4-4000 to DDR5-4800 we see a 16% increase in throughput and now we're almost at 70 GB/s. Then from 4800 to 5200 we're looking at a 9% boost, 5200 to 5600 a 6% boost, and finally an 11% boost to 6200, reaching an impressive 88 GB/s transfer speed. But memory bandwidth isn't everything and for a lot of workloads memory latency is more important, so let's take a look at that. Also, chances are 12th-gen Core series owners won't feel the need to upgrade until 14th-gen hits at the absolute earliest, and at that point you'd need a new motherboard anyway.
